The Medicine & Wellness Dept.

June 10, 2010

My week has really been suckin’ eggs, but all that is about to change. The sun is shining (again), the week is concluding (at last), and a post I contributed to a lovely blog entitled Not So Humble Pie (right here) reminded me how close we are in Toronto to berry season. Oh my. Sigh.

If you check out the Humble post, above, you’ll also discover a disturbing and delicious recipe for something called Scotch Tablet. To repeat the joke I made in Humble‘s comment section, trust the Scottish to invent something that’s clearly a member of the candy family but whose name permits it to masquerade as a representative of the Medicine and Wellness Department. Reminds me of the time I traveled to Montréal with R. and after a night of martinis and brasserie dining, we reached for a tall, cool Campari soda with an Advil Rapid Release chaser. Breakfast of champions!

PS: I not only prescribe the above-noted morning-after remedy, but as your blog and bakery practitioner also strongly recommend perusing Not So Humble Pie archives. That lady makes a mean salted caramel, not to mention some very, very earnest cookies.

This is a drink that B would love, although the Campari con Advil would be a close second. Happy Friday, my friend.
